Structured Data (Schema Markup)

Structured data are standardized data formats (JSON-LD, Microdata) that mark up website content in a machine-readable way — following the Schema.org vocabulary. They explicitly tell search engines and AI models what a page contains: organizations, products, FAQ, reviews, events. For GEO, structured data are the technical foundation for AI engines to correctly interpret and cite content.

Why does this matter?

Structured data are the difference between "AI model understands your content" and "AI model guesses." Pages with Schema markup are cited 2.5x more frequently in AI Overviews. For mid-sized businesses, structured data are the most cost-effective GEO measure: implemented once, they work permanently across all AI engines.

How IJONIS uses this

We implement Schema.org markup as JSON-LD: Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, Article, and Product — depending on page type. Every markup is validated with Google Rich Results Test and Schema validators. For GEO, we add industry-specific schemas that AI models interpret as entity signals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Schema markup types are most important for GEO?
For GEO, Organization (brand identity), FAQPage (direct answers for AI agents), Article (expertise signals), and LocalBusiness (regional association) are most impactful. Service schema helps AI models understand your offerings and include them in recommendations.
Do I need structured data if I already have good SEO?
Yes — structured data are not an alternative to SEO but a complement. While SEO ensures content quality, structured data provide the machine-readable meaning layer that AI models need. Without Schema markup, AI engines must guess what your content means — with markup, they know.
